Battery-Electric Vehicles in Road Operations (AlADin II) – Research & Evaluation

Summary

Bundesanstalt für Straßen- und Verkehrswesen (BASt) commissioned research to assess the practical viability, performance, and economic feasibility of battery-electric vehicles in road operations. The study evaluates energy consumption, equipment compatibility, maintenance requirements, infrastructure needs, safety aspects, investment and operating costs, autonomous operation up to 72 hours, and renewable energy integration (e.g., solar). Market monitoring of vehicles, battery technologies, and charging infrastructure is conducted annually, accounting for regional climate and topographic differences. The deliverable is a comprehensive evaluation framework for all vehicle categories (excluding cars) to support informed procurement strategies.
